In fiamme. La performance nello spazio delle lotte (1967-1979)

Ilenia Caleo, Piersandra Di Matteo, Annalisa Sacchi

This volume interrogates the scene of the long 1968 in Italy at the intersection of artistic and political experimentation of movements, in search of questions that still besiege and disturb the present. Questions exploded then, relating to community, disciplinary hybridisation, processes of subjectivation, and the relationship between creation and production are still dominant in the discursive and artistic praxis of performance.

A radical Italian laboratory, inventive and not without contradictions, here takes shape through themes and paths that first emerged in the 1960s and came to take root and become more precise in the 1970s, in that performance-form that deflagrated in the space of struggles. In the vividness of geographies, environments, relational ecosystems, the volume restores the complex dimension of performance as a field of production of the common.

In flames is constructed as a multi-dimensional and polyphonic object, which assembles different temporalities and voices of artists, scholars, activists, moving between theories and practices, between writings and the materiality of images. The result of the work of the INCOMMON research group, it is a living archive of words and gestures that is reactivated in the present, opening up new trajectories of historical reading and contemporary critical theory.
